Our Water

Riverbend's riverside, mountain view, hot mineral springs are just what you need for a quiet, relaxing retreat and a truly healing experience. Of all of the many hot springs in the southwest, Riverbend is truly unique.

The therapeutic benefits of our geothermal water have been known and used long before Geronimo and his Apache warriors left their weapons behind and spent the most peaceful time of their lives here as guests of Chief Victorio of the Warm Springs Apaches.

People continue to use our enchanted water to find relief from pain, to detoxify their bodies, and to melt away their stress. Come soak by the hour or stay the night and soak all day.

Riverbend Hot Springs offers the only open-air hot springs on the banks of the Rio Grande River, allowing our bathers to relax in our marvelous rock pools, while breathing fresh smoke-free air and enjoying the views of Turtleback mountain or our starry nights.

Our water has no sulfur smell, yet is some of the richest mineral water in the country. Check out the mineral content.

Private Pools

Our private pools are perfect for those that would like more peaceful privacy. They are clothing optional and are walled on three sides but open to the riverside mountain view. They are available for rental by the public and are discounted for overnight guests. Rent them via 50 minute sessions that start at the top of every hour between 8AM and the last session of the night starts at 9 PM. Click the "Book Online" links below to book online.

About temperatures: The temperatures shown in the pictures below are averages for the majority of the year. Keep in mind these are natural springs and the temperatures of the pools may up to 3 degrees lower during the coldest times of the year.

Cancellation Policy

The cutoff date for cancellation depends on how many Pool Sessions you book. Each 50 minute session in each pool is 1 Pool Session (ie: 1 pool for 2 {50 minute} sessions in a row= 2 Pool Sessions and 2 pools for 3 {50 minute} sessions in a row= 6 Pool Sessions).

We require 24 hours notice to cancel or change your appointment if you have 1 or 2 Pool Sessions. We require 7 days notice to cancel or change your appointment if you have 3-5 Pool Sessions. We require 30 days notice to cancel or change your appointment if you have 6 or more Pool Sessions. Cancellations or changes (move or shorten) to your appointment with less notice than those specified periods will result in credit card charges of $30 per Pool Session. No Shows will of course be charged as well. No exceptions.

We reserve the option to charge your Credit Card for your appointment at or after the cancellation cutoff date to assure payment for your appointment and to expedite registration during peak times. Appointments with declined Credit Cards will be cancelled unless another form of payment has been pre-determined.

Deluxe Private Pools

Our newer Deluxe Pools all combine the comfort and unique shapes of fiberglass pools with the beautiful design and breathtaking views that Riverbend has been known for. All Deluxe Pools feature ceiling fans, misters (in the Summer months), a cold overhead shower, and riverside curtains.. Two chaise loungers are provided for cooling off and relaxing in each pool enclosure but all of the pools are large enough for groups up to at least 4 people (Navajo and Apache can easily fit 6). Larger parties can be booked via phone. Children ages 12 and up are welcome (same price as adult). No pets allowed in Deluxe Pool enclosures. All pool areas at Riverbend are designated Whisper Zones.

Classic Private Pools

Our Classic Pools offer a more rustic, yet natural feeling soak. They are constructed of concrete, stone and tile and offer a bit more variation in temperature than our Deluxe Pools. Each features an overhead cold shower, misters (in the Summer months), riverside curtains, and either 2 chaise loungers or benches with pillows (Rio). The Classic Pools are all great for singles or couples, but you could fit up to 4 guests in Cielo and Tierra. Children ages 12 and up are welcome (same price as adult). All pool areas at Riverbend are designated Whisper Zones.

Common Pools

The comon pools consist of 8 pools, with a different temperature in each one. Temperatures usually range from around 95-108 degrees. They are situated around a shaded river deck and include a cold shower for cooling off, as well as our large shaded patio with chaise loungers, mist fans (in the summer), dining tables and chairs, and our barrel sauna. Our river pier offers the most amazing vistas and has become THE place to read, birdwatch, or even get married! The cold and clear Rio Grande River is also accessible for swimming at your own risk (closed when the river levels are fluctuating: usually October-March). Riverbend’s common pools are loved for the communal aspect of meeting people from all over the world. The common pools are available via a one hour Property Pass. Or, if you stay the night in one of our overnight accommodations, they are included. We do not reserve space in the common pools and there is limited space availability.

Our hottest three pools are nicknamed The Hot Minnow Baths, because they have a unique history. Until 1990, Riverbend was a riverside bait shop that was built over 70 years ago by the Pierce family. Riverbend’s owners purchased the bait shop in 1988, made a colossal leap and converted their family run bait shop to a hot springs in early 1990. Though they have been reformatted and covered in stone, the three upper pools were once the original tanks that housed minnows, water dogs, craw dads, and other live bait. The surrounding bath house is the original bait shop, minus one wall. A sign above the pools pays homage to the bath house’s interesting story

There are 5 Riverside Rock Pools. They are milder in temperature (between 95-106) and are the perfect choices for a longer, detoxifying soak. They are literally a few feet from the river's edge and are the premier spot for enjoying the view of Turtleback Mountain and the abundant wildlife, or, for enjoying a relaxing soak under the starry night sky.
