Riverbend's riverside, mountain view, hot mineral springs are just what you need for a relaxing retreat and a truly healing experience. Of all of the many hot springs in the southwest, Riverbend is truly unique.
The therapeutic benefits of our geothermal water have been known and used long before Geronimo and his Apache warriors left their weapons behind and spent the most peaceful time of their lives here as guests of Chief Victorio of the Warm Springs Apaches.
People continue to use our enchanted water to find relief from pain, to detoxify their bodies, and to melt away their stress. Come soak by the hour or stay the night and soak all day.
Riverbend Hot Springs offers the only open-air hot springs on the banks of the Rio Grande River, allowing our bathers to relax in our marvelous rock pools, while breathing fresh smoke-free air and enjoying the views of Turtleback mountain or our starry nights.
Our water has no sulfur smell, yet is some of the richest mineral water in the country. Check out the mineral content.

Cielo (Spanish for “sky”) is popular for its high, majestic location, its large size, and its open mountain view. The shaded pool seats four people and its temperature is usually between 105-106 degrees. It has a spacious sun deck, a curtain for extra privacy, and cool blue rope lights for a relaxing night soak. Cielo is the perfect choice for singles, couples, and small groups who want a medium water temperature in a comfortable, spacious pool.
Rio (“river”) is very popular for its extremely close proximity to the river, its high temperature, and its quiet flow of water. This cozy pool seats two people very comfortably and has a temperature of about 107-108 degrees. It has a small shaded deck for cooling off between dips. The cool blue rope lights and unparalleled open sky view make Rio our most requested night pool for couples. Rio is the perfect choice for singles and couples who want the highest water temperature in a cozy, quiet, riverside pool.
Tierra (“earth”) is popular for its very large deck, its moderate temperature, and its shoulder soothing waterfall. This pool seats four people very comfortably and has a temperature of about 104-105 degrees. It has a large sun deck for stretching out and relaxing between dips. Tierra is the perfect choice for singles, couples, and groups who want the mildest water temperature and the largest deck for relaxing on.
The public pools consist of five pools that cascade from one to another, creating a different temperature in each one. Temperatures usually range from around 100-108 degrees. They are situated around a shaded river deck and include a cold shower for cooling off, as well as our large shaded patio with chaise loungers, mist fans (in the summer), dining tables and chairs, and our barrel sauna. Our river pier offers the most amazing vistas and has become THE place to read, enjoy a glass of wine, or even get married! The cold and clear Rio Grande River is also accessible for swimming at your own risk (closed when the river levels are fluctuating). Riverbend’s public pools are loved for the communal aspect of meeting people from all over the world. The public pools are available via a one hour Property Pass. Or, if you stay the night in one of our overnight accommodations, they are included. We do not reserve space in the public pools and there is limited space availability.
Our hottest three pools are nicknamed The Hot Minnow Baths, because they have a unique history. Until 1990, Riverbend was a riverside bait shop that was built over 70 years ago by the Pierce family. Riverbend’s owners purchased the bait shop in 1988, made a colossal leap and converted their family run bait shop to a hot springs in early 1990. Though they have been reformatted and covered in stone, the three upper pools were once the original tanks that housed minnows, water dogs, craw dads, and other live bait. The surrounding bath house is the original bait shop, minus one wall. A sign above the pools pays homage to the bath house’s interesting story
In the last decade we have added two stone pools. They are milder in temperature (between 100-104) and are the perfect choices for a longer, detoxifying soak. They are literally a few feet from the river's edge and are the premier spot for enjoying the view of Turtleback Mountain and the abundant wildlife, or, for enjoying a relaxing soak under the starry night sky.
